Remembering Tony Flaim

This man could sing the blues. I wish he could have stuck around.

TONY FLAIM
5/12/48 - 3/10/00

Not sure why I'm posting this video, since the dude who'd been in jail (according to his vocal preamble) put it together and used two of my photographs without permission...oh nevermind, this one came up after the other one and it's a quality recording. I want to give you a taste of Tony's undeniable talent.

Tony Flaim is one of 48 musicians I honor in my book, Everybody I Shot Is Dead.

Missing Mike Bloomfield

Losing Michael Bloomfield was/is a huge loss to music - he was a crazy great guitar player. He was also an amazing human being (albeit somewhat tortured) - interested in everything, completely engaging and shone the spotlight on everybody else and their talents, instead of his own. He just wanted to play the blues. He didn't give a shit about being famous.

MICHAEL BLOOMFIELD
6/28/43 - 2/15/81

Check out this compilation of MB clips and what everybody says about him... there is a box set of MB music (Michael Bloomfield: From His Head to His Heart to His Hands) and a one-hour documentary titled Sweet Blues: A Film About Mike Bloomfield included (apparently this is the trailer for it). The double titling is confusing but I believe the doc is included in the music box set. I have not seen the doc or heard the set but I'm sure it's worth checking out.

The comprehensive Michael Bloomfield section in Everybody I Shot Is Dead includes photos I took of him, photographs he took with my camera, my stories about him and a ghost story that happened while I was working on the book. All true. If you don't have a copy of my book, grab it now from HERE. Photographic prints are also available HERE.

Alvin Lee

Happy Birthday, Alvin!

Genius guitar player. Playing Woodstock catapulted him to fame and became known as the fastest guitar player. The original shredder.

ALVIN LEE
12/19/44 - 3/6/13

This is the song they had in the Woodstock film. Check out his playing "I'm Going Home" live...

Jane Vasey

Okay, I messed up yesterday when I didn't celebrate Jane Vasey's birthday. I take full responsibility for my mishap and am making up for it by turning her day into the whole weekend because she is one of the best blues pianists to ever grace this planet.

JANE VASEY
10/16/49 - 6/7/82

Sadly, she died at such a young age from leukemia.

This may be the only footage of her on youtube. Warning...don't try this at home...because you'll probably fail.

Peter and the Spoon

Two for Friday from my book, Everybody I Shot Is Dead. Which means they have sadly passed, but I am here to keep their memories and music alive.

First is keyboardist and songwriter, Peter Wood...

PETER WOOD
4/9/50 - 9/18/94

Scarce footage on Peter Wood. Here again playing keyboards with Lou Reed - appearing on camera around the 4:42 mark...

Secondly, is Jimmy Witherspoon. Hopefully, no introduction is needed...

JIMMY WITHERSPOON
8/8/20 - 9/18/97

Cool video...

If you don't own my book, you should.
Both of these fine musicians grace the pages, along with many more.

Spoon's Birthday

I'm getting an early start on celebrating Jimmy Witherspoon's birthday. He was one of the blues greats and I was fortunate to take photos of him when he was part of the Blues Jam in Vancouver. The guitarist behind him in this photo is Hollywood Fats, who is also in my book, Everybody I Shot Is Dead.

JIMMY WITHERSPOON
8/8/20 - 9/18/97

I chose this video because it's Spoon at his best and you get to see a very young Robben Ford, who I shot when he was playing with George Harrison, killing it on guitar.
