My Picks of the Month
by Alan Caruba, December 2007
Everybody I Shot is Dead is one of those titles that stops you in your tracks and, for anyone who loves the music of the 1970’s, this extraordinary collection of photos by Deborah Chesher, taken from 1974 to 1979, it will come as a shock that 48 of the many musicians she photographed have since passed away ($60.00, Chesher Cat Productions, Studio City, CA). This is a large format, 9.5" x 11.5", museum quality "coffee table" book, filled with more than four hundred of never-before-seen iconic photographs, black and white, and color, of performers such as George Harrison of the Beatles, Frank Zappa, the Beach Boys’ Dennis and Carl Wilson, Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, John Denver, Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, Hank Snow, and Rick Nelson, to name just a few immortalized in a book by one of the music industry’s most renowned rock’n roll photographers. The book is strongly evocative of one of the most creative chapters in popular music. |
